EA Javelin Anti-Cheat on FC 27: How It Works and How to Fix It

A plain explanation of the kernel-level anti-cheat shipping with EA FC 27 — what it can see, what it cannot, and every error code it throws.

EA FC 27 ships with EA Javelin Anticheat, EA's own kernel-mode anti-cheat and anti-tamper system. It has been part of EA FC since FIFA 23, and on PC it is not optional — if it will not start, the game will not start.

Most of what gets written about kernel anti-cheat is either marketing or panic. This page is neither. It covers what Javelin actually is, what it needs from your PC, what every error code means, and an honest account of where it sits relative to third-party tools.

What EA Javelin actually is

Javelin is described by EA as a lightweight kernel-mode anti-cheat and anti-tamper solution. "Kernel-mode" means it runs at the same privilege level as your operating system rather than as an ordinary application.

The reasoning is straightforward: the more capable cheats also operate at that level, and a user-mode anti-cheat simply cannot see them. Running in the kernel is how EA gets visibility into memory tampering and driver-level manipulation.

The part people usually get wrong: Javelin does not run all the time. It launches automatically with FC 27 and shuts down when the game closes. It is not a startup service and it is not sitting in the background while you do other things on your PC.

What your PC needs

There is a hard requirement most players never think about until it bites: Windows 10 version 20H1 (build 10.0.19041) or newer. Anything older and Javelin refuses to initialise, which means FC 27 will not launch.

You can check your build in seconds — press Windows + R, type winver, press Enter, and read the version line. If it shows anything below 19041, you need a Windows update before launch day, not on it.

Secure Boot and up-to-date chipset and GPU drivers also matter more than usual with kernel anti-cheat, because outdated or unsigned drivers are a common cause of initialisation failures.

Every EA AntiCheat error code, decoded

The error numbers are opaque but each one points at something specific:

  • #6 — "Your Windows version is not supported." You are below Windows 10 build 19041. Update Windows; nothing else will fix it.
  • #95 — unacceptable system configuration. Something about the machine state is rejected. Usually Secure Boot settings, virtualisation conflicts, or another security tool holding the same hooks.
  • #119 — incompatible or outdated driver. A driver on your system is flagged. Update chipset, GPU and any peripheral drivers; old overclocking and RGB utilities are frequent culprits.
  • #701 — Windows file system transaction log corruption. A filesystem issue rather than a game issue. Run chkdsk on the affected drive.

If EA AntiCheat fails to update rather than throwing a numbered error, the reliable fix is a restart followed by a clean reinstall of the anti-cheat component specifically — not the whole game.

What Javelin sees and what it does not

Kernel anti-cheat is powerful but narrow. Javelin is a client-side system: it watches what happens on your machine while the game is running.

That is only half of EA's detection. The other half is server-side behavioural analysis — results, win patterns, market activity, timing data — plus manual review triggered by player reports. Those run regardless of what is happening on your PC, and historically they account for a large share of enforcement.

The practical implication is one most sellers will not say out loud: a tool being invisible to the anti-cheat does not make an account invisible. Behaviour is the bigger risk. Winning every match 7-0 generates reports, and reports generate human review.

What this means if you run third-party tools

We are not going to publish anything about how our toolkit interacts with Javelin at a technical level, and you should be sceptical of any site that does — that information is only useful to EA.

What we will say plainly: every build we ship is tested against the current retail FC 27 client before it goes out, and when EA updates the game we pause rather than let people run a stale build into a changed anti-cheat. That pause is the system working correctly, not the service failing.

What we will not claim is that anything is unbannable. Nothing is. Anyone promising you a permanent guarantee against a kernel anti-cheat backed by server-side analysis is selling you a story. Our full position on risk is in the ban-risk guide, and it is worth reading before you buy anything from anyone — including us.

FAQ

Common questions

No. It launches with the game and shuts down when the game closes. It does not load at Windows startup and is not running in the background when FC 27 is not open.

Windows 10 version 20H1, build 10.0.19041, or newer. Below that, EA AntiCheat throws error #6 and the game will not launch. Check yours with Windows + R, then winver.

Error #119 means an incompatible or outdated driver was detected. Update chipset, GPU and peripheral drivers, and remove old overclocking or RGB utilities, which are common causes.

That one is a Windows file system transaction log corruption rather than a game problem. Run chkdsk on the drive FC 27 is installed on, then restart.

No. EA Javelin has shipped with the series since FIFA 23, so FC 27 continues an established system rather than introducing a new one.
